Is it better to learn German with a teacher or self taught?

I've been learning German for a year now, and I've been doing well, but my pronunciation of the words is horrible and I think it's because I don't have anyone who could help me with pronunciation or practice having conversations in German and I often have trouble understanding German when it's spoken. Other than that, I learn words fine and I can understand a lot of things when I read in German, but the way I learn is inconsistent and I find it helpful to be given a set words to learn within a certain amount of time since I'm a fast learner. I'm considering getting a teacher but I don't know if it's better than being self taught. Has anyone experienced both self teaching and having teacher teach you a language? Which was better for you and are there any pros and cons?
