Did he accept my friend request?

I recently added someone I know on msn messenger, and a few minutes later, I only saw his screen name instead of his email address. I usually added people before, and when they accepted my requests, I saw their screen names and their status. If they didn't accpept my request, I only saw their email addresses. This time, I only saw his screen name without his status. What does this mean?
