Alternate spellings or not?

My name is Emalee. I like the way it spelled because I have never met anyone with there name spelled like that. I haven't had "a life time of correcting people" like so many people out there promise. It doesn't affect the pronunciation of my name and I personally don't think it looks "trashy". My daughters names are Lynsie, Madisyn and Camerin and they haven't had "a horrible life of correcting people" either. So what is the big deal about alternate spellings?
