Yahoo Messenger App on Android powered Sanyo Zio?

Boyfriend recently bought a Sanyo Zio & is having trouble with the yahoo messenger app. The app is downloaded in the phone, but when I tested it to see if it was working I ran into some problems. I logged on with the phone on his screen name, then got on my laptop logged in under my name. In his contact list it was showing me as being offline, when obviously I was online because I had just logged on with the laptop. Also, when trying to send a message from my yahoo on the laptop, to his yahoo on the phone, it would never show up on the phone. The computer showed it as sent in the chat box, but never popped up on the chat box on the phone. But when sending messages from his yahoo on the phone, to my yahoo on the computer, it sent instantly. Anybody else have these problems? We tried uninstalling then reinstalling the app, but still does the same thing??
